• DelRosarioLaw lawyers among the top 100 lawyers in the Philippines

    We are proud to announce that four (4) lawyers of DelRosarioLaw were adjudged to be part of the Top 100 Lawyers in the Philippines by the Asia Business Law Journal for 2024.  The list is based on extensive research conducted and nominations received from in-house counsel based in the Philippines and elsewhere, as well as Philippines-focused partners at international law firms.  Included in the list are DelRosarioLaw’s Co-Managing Partners Ruben Del Rosario and Arturo Del Rosario, Jr. as well as Senior Partners Charles Dela Cruz and Joseph Rebano.

    Joseph was also the recipient of Asialaw’s 2024 Aviation and Shipping Lawyer of the Year which was held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  DelRosarioLaw was shortlisted as Aviation and Shipping Firm of the Year.

    With the passage of long-awaited Magna Carta of Seafarers, the Firm has been active in speaking engagements with the various stakeholders these past weeks discussing the intricacies and salient provisions of this landmark legislation.

    Notably, the Firms Partners, Charles Dela Cruz, Herbert Tria and Denise Cabanos in collaboration with Gard participated in a very successful 3-day People Claims seminar with the Club’s Members held at Gard Greece office in Piraeus from 15 to 17 October 2024.

     is a University of Santo Tomas graduate, Bachelor of Arts, Legal Management (Cum Laude).  She also obtained her Juris Doctor degree from the same school in 2022 and passed the bar on 2023.  She is a member of Maritime Law Association of the Philippines (MARLAW).

    Marina Antoinette H. Cruz is a De La Salle-College of St. Benilde graduate, Bachelor of Arts in Major in Consular and Diplomatic Affairs (Honorable Mention). Toni was an exchange student in Universidad de Alcala in Alcala de Henares, Spain in 2016. She obtained her Juris Doctor degree at the San Beda University in 2022 and passed the bar on 2023. She is a member of Maritime Law Association of the Philippines (MARLAW).

  • DelRosario launched its first solar-powered learning center in Dinagat Islands last August 24 2023. Dinagat Islands is a province in northeastern Mindanao south of The Philippines. During the ceremony, DelRosario turned over the DelRosario learning center and the same was received by Rizal Central Elementary School Head, Ms. Analyn Roma. On the same occasion, a total of 300 schoolbags were distributed by DelRosario to Grades 1-6 students-beneficiaries from six island barangays identified to be among the poorest of the poor. This was done in cooperation with OSM AD Foundation who we give our utmost thanks.

  • DelRosarioLaw Partner Ma. Gina B. Guinto was Guest Speaker last 9 June 2023 during a virtual online seminar organized by the Arnecke Sibeth Dabelstein/ ASD Academy for Maritime Labour Law in Germany. She spoke about the POEA Seafarers employment agreements as well as industry updates. Also in attendance was DelRosarioLaw Partner Joseph Rebano. The seminar was attended by members from the German shipowners’ association.
     
    DelRosarioLaw Partner Ma. Gina B. Guinto swore in as Board of Trustee and Corporate Secretary of the Maritime Law Associate of the Philippines (MARLAW) 2023-2024 last February 22, 2023 before inducting officer, Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo. Also sworn in as officers are DelRosarioLaw Partner Aldrich C. del Rosario, VP for Sports and Recreation and DelRosarioLaw Managing Associate David O. Valencia, VP for Social Medial and Publications.  Justice Gesmundo addressed the inductees underscoring the crucial role of maritime lawyers. For the maritime industry, Justice Gesmundo spoke about the attention given to the law against ambulance-chasing as well as on-going deliberations on third doctor examination.
     
    DelRosario Law Partners Joseph Rebano and Ma. Gina Guinto were guest speakers at the Nord Hamburg-Seacrest Crew Conference last 7 March 2023 at the Diamond Makati Residences.  Joseph discussed the recent industry developments and government/legislation efforts in advancing vessels interest while Gina spoke about the Ambulance-chasing law of the Philippines. 
     
     
    Del Rosario & Del Rosario named as 2022 Best Boutique Law Firm by the Asian Business Law Journal
      
    We are proud to announce that Del Rosario & Del Rosario was awarded the Best Boutique Law Firm for 2022 by the Asia Business Law Journal.  Despite the challenges brought about by the pandemic, DRLaw remained resilient in 2022 as it has assisted clients in over 1,000 crew claims with potential exposure of up to several hundred thousand dollars per claim.  Some claims were cross-border jurisdictional issues, which required the firm to issue opinions and affidavits supporting Philippine exclusive jurisdiction. The law firm is also actively involved in drafting the so-called magna carta for seafarers, including revisions to the POEA Contract, which provides minimum
    employment terms for Filipino seafarers.

    Doctors' Summit

    DelRosarioLaw and DelRosario Pandiphil conducted an interactive seminar with the various major post-employment medical clinics last 14 March 2023. DelRosarioLaw Partner Florencio Aquino conducted the presentation to guide and assist the doctors in providing their medical assessment aligned with the POEA Contract, Labor Code and jurisprudence.  This was followed by a collaborative discussion among the attendees which would be useful in the doctors' handling of medical cases.  As jurisprudence continues to change, the Firm will continue to conduct periodic discussions with the doctors.   • DelRosarioLaw Partners enriched their relationship with London P&I Club through a Zoom virtual meeting with the Club’s claims team from various offices held on 25 November 2021. The main agenda was the presentation given by our Partners Charles Dela Cruz and Joseph Rebano entitled: “Pandemic induced changes: Crewing landscape.” An interactive session on related topics then ensued. We would like to thank Reine Gomis for arranging the virtual meeting and we look forward to more mutually beneficial meetings – online or in-person – in the future.
  • DelRosarioLaw Partner Gina Guinto was invited to be a panelist last 8 March 2022 at the Anglo-Eastern Worldwide Women’s Day Special Webinar entitled, “Celebrating SHEroes @ AE”, Gina also spoke on Breaking the Bias - within the workplace and family emphasizing the very important role of women not only in the shipping industry but also to society.

    With over 15 years of experience in the firm, Gina has handled a number of high profile maritime casualties, multi-jurisdictional maritime labor employment issues and has specialized in maritime labor practice in the NCMB, NLRC and the POEA.  She also handles board of marine inquiries, illegal dismissal cases, cargo and corporate accounts.
     
    Gina is a Business Management graduate from the University of the Philippines Cebu (Cum Laude) and a Juris Doctor/law graduate from the Ateneo de Manila University School of Law (with Second Honors).

    The Firm also announces the promotion of Meighan E. Sembrano as Senior Associate.  Meighan joined DelRosarioLaw in 2017.  She holds a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from Ateneo de Davao University and obtained her law degree from San Beda Alabang in 2016.  She has successfully passed the P&I Qualification Module 1: The Shipping Business in 2021.  Her expertise include handling labor dispute issues such as crew claims and illegal dismissal cases.  She has likewise assisted in wet-shipping matters.

    DelRosarioLaw also welcomes the addition of Jesselle Bigalbal-Quijano as Junior Associate of the Firm.  Jesselle is a 2006 HRIM - Culinary graduate of De La Salle College of St. Benilde, and a 2019 Juris Doctor graduate of DLSU College of Law. She was admitted to the Bar in April 2020.

    Janice M. Garcia, joined Pandiphil in 2012 with a degree in Bachelor of Arts major in Political Science.  She has since been handling crew claims and post–medical repatriation.  She is proficient in dealing with various local manning agencies by ensuring to provide quality service with integrity and efficiency.

  • DelRosarioLaw Partners Charles Dela Cruz and Denise Cabanos together with Managing Associate Julius Yano acted as resource speakers at the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Lawyers’ Convention held virtually on 29 October 2021.

    Charles shared his insights and experience as Past President of the Maritime Law Association (MARLAW) in delivering the presentation, “Manifesting MARLAW’s Mandate”. Denise joined the open forum as MARLAW’s Immediate Past Chairman covering the more recent undertakings of said organization. Julius for his part, spoke on “Philippine maritime laws and MARINA rules and regulations: from the perspective of a private practitioner.” He is regularly invited to various MARINA fora and is currently MARLAW Public Relations Officer.

    DelRosarioLaw Partner Florencio Aquino was recently invited to be a guest speaker by the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy, Graduate School last 16 October 2021.  Florencio’s topic was on Filipino Seafarer’s Claims in the Philippines and he also discussed the Seafarer’s Protection Act.  Many thanks to PMMA GS for the invitation and being part of your ongoing seminars.

  • DelRosarioLaw Senior Partner Charles Jay Dela Cruz was invited again to be a resource speaker in the recently concluded Pre-Accreditation Training Program for Voluntary Arbitrators conducted by the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) in coordination with the Tripartite Voluntary Arbitration Advisory Council (TVAAC) held on August 9 to 13, 2021. Charles has been consistently tapped to share his expertise in similar NCMB training sessions such as retooling of Maritime Voluntary Arbitrators and continuing education for Conciliators and Mediators.

    DelRosarioLaw Senior Associates Richard Sanchez and Maricris Ferrer attended the 2-day Skuld School course held at The Westin Singapore from 7-8 May 2019.  The course aims to introduce attendees to the rudiments of P&I insurance and discusses issues for a good working knowledge of the subject.
     
    Richard and Maricris also took the opportunity to visit and touch base with other Singapore based Clubs to discuss different legal issues in the Philippines.

  • The Maritime Law Association of the Philippines (MARLAW), led by its President, DelRosarioLaw Partner, Denise Luis B. Cabanos, spearheaded a very successful and well-attended forum on 19 July 2019 at the Philippine Diamond Hotel, with the theme “Raising Awareness on Developments in Maritime Law.” Distinguished resources speakers, including Past President of MARLAW and DelRosarioLaw Partner, Charles Jay Dela Cruz, shared their insightful views on pertinent and interesting issues in maritime law and practice.   This was attended by more than 200 participants, mainly from the manning industry. This was the biggest and most attended MARLAW forum in recent history.
     
    DelRosarioLaw Senior Associate Julius A. Yano gave a series of lectures on the concept of archipelagic states under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. The lecture was given before members of the Philippine Bar as part of the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education program for Filipino lawyers.
  • DelRosarioLaw Senior Partner Charles Dela Cruz and DelRosarioPandiphil In-house Medical Doctor Edgardo Del Rosario were invited by the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) to speak at the 23rd Labor Dispute Management Course, an annual training workshop for its Directors and Conciliators-Mediators held on 3 April 2019 in Candelaria, Zambales. Atty. Dela Cruz lectured on “Maritime Jurisprudence” while Dr. Del Rosario (with Atty. Dela Cruz as panel speaker) discussed “Compensable Illnesses/Diseases and Disability”.

  • DelRosarioLaw Partner Catherine Mangahas attended the 18th General Assembly & 68th and 69th Council meetings of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA) which was held last 17-21 November 2018 at New Delhi, India. As a Member thereof, Catherine had the opportunity to exchange views and information with leading practitioners of intellectual property law and be abreast of recent legal developments in Asia on intellectual property protection.
     
    The APAA is a non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting and enhancing intellectual property protection in the Asian region (including Australia and New Zealand).

  • Arturo T. del Rosario Jr. elected IPAP President for 2015 - 2017

    Co-managing partner Arturo has been elected President of the Intellectual Property Association of the Philippines (IPAP) for a three-year term starting 2015.  IPAP is the leading organization for Intellectual Property Law practitioners in the Philippines.   IPAP has remained committed to every aspect of the protection of intellectual property, and has assisted in the drafting of legislation and implementing rules relating to the many facets of Intellectual Property Law for the Congress of the Philippines, Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines, Optical Media Board, and other government agencies.  
    IPAP is the only officially recognized Philippine organization by the Asian Patent Attorney Association (APAA), and the Association Internationale Pour la Protection de la Propriete Intellectuelle (AIPPI).
  • Partners Charles Dela Cruz and Herbert Tria spoke on “Current Crew Claims Handling Issues related to the Data Privacy Act” at the 7th Annual Magsaysay Shipping and Logistics’ Marine Insurance Seminar held on 21 September 2018 at Robert Hall, Times Plaza Building, Manila. This year’s theme was “Key Challenges Facing Shipping and Logistics Supply Chain”.
  • In close cooperation with Birgitta Hed of The Swedish Club, our Catherine Mangahas and Veronica Del Rosario-Aguinaldo made a presentation on “Understanding Legal and Practical Issues on Filipino Crew Claims” to Swedish Club Members in Donso, Sweden on 16 October 2019.
     
    On 23 October 2019, a similar seminar was organized by The Swedish Club to its Members in Hamburg, Germany conducted by our Charles Dela Cruz, Denise Cabanos and Aldrich Del Rosario.  

    Charles, Denise and Aldrich also lectured on the same subject organized by the West of England for its Members in Piraeus, Greece on 17 October 2019.

  • Del Rosario & Del Rosario Law Office Partners Charles Dela Cruz and Denise Cabanos together with Managing Associate Ma Gina Guinto-Ambil visited several P&I Clubs, Ship Owners and Ship Managers in Greece and Cyprus from 16 to 28 April 2018.

    Aside from several meetings with indusrty partners, they conducted seminars and discussions on the latest legal updates regarding crew claims and procedures in the Philippines.

  • DelRosarioLaw Senior Partner Charles Jay Dela Cruz was elected as member of the Board of Trustees of the Philippine Bar Association (PBA) for the term 2018-2019. Founded in 1891, PBA is the oldest and most prestigious voluntary national organization of lawyers in the Philippines.  

    Likewise, Charles was re-elected as Board Trustee and Corporate Secretary of the Philippines Norway Business Council (PNBC). PNBC is a non-profit organization which aims to promote closer economic and friendly relations between Philippines and Norway and serves as a forum for viewpoints on business and commercial dealings in both domestic and international settings. DelRosarioLaw acts as legal advisor to PNBC.

    Aside from serving in such Boards, Charles is a sought after speaker in various fora. He just spoke on the “Nuances of Retirement Law in the Philippines” at the 1st HR Compliance Conference held on 19-20 June 2018 at the SMX Aura Convention, BGC (and has been invited again at the 2nd edition in September 2018).


  • Del Rosario & Del Rosario lawyers David Valencia and Ralph Villamor took part in the 2018 Skuld School in Hong Kong.  The course was held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel from 11- 12 April 2018.  The course was attended by select representatives from different sectors wishing to add to their knowledge of P&I insurance as well as an overview of the industry.

    David and Ralph likewise visited the Hong Kong offices of Gard P&I, Steamship Mutual, Swedish Club, West of England, North of England and UKP&I where they had a lively discussion on current trends in Filipino seafarers claims.

  • DelRosarioLaw Senior Associate Julius Yano gave a lecture on ECDIS, Navigational Incidents and Loss Prevention during the crew seminar organized by Synergy Ocean Maritime, Inc. last 8 June 2019.  The lecture discussed, among others, the regulations on ECDIS operation in relation to the importance of ECDIS training and familiarization. A case study was likewise presented and paramount importance on the proper use of an up-to-date system by competent crew was stressed.  The concept of Bridge Team Management was likewise discussed to ensure safe shipping.

  • The team in our Firm handling crew matters involving Filipino personnel on-board cruise lines embarked on a courtesy visit to the major cruise companies based in Miami. One encouraging development noted during the visit is that newly-built ships will be launched this year which will translate to more overseas employment opportunities for Filipinos and in turn, fuel up the economy even more.   • On 19 September 2017, Del Rosario & Del Rosario sponsored a seminar on the Data Privacy Act which was held at the DelRosarioLaw Centre. The guest speaker was the National Privacy Commission’s Chairman and Commissioner, Mr. Raymund Liboro. Commissioner Liboro provided a background and orientation on the relatively new law. Aside from providing practical insights, he likewise urged the manning industry to be among the first to formulate a sectoral code of conduct on data privacy together with the pertinent government regulators.

  • The Asia Business Law Journal has named Managing Partners Arturo Del Rosario, Jr. and Ruben Del Rosario and Senior Partner Joseph Rebano as one of the Philippines Top 100 Lawyers in their recently published list.

    DelRosarioLaw Partner Joseph Rebano was invited to be a lecturer by the Supreme Court of the Philippines, the Philippine Judicial Academy and the Special Committee for the Rules of Procedure for Admiralty Cases in the Training Seminar on the Rules of Procedure for Admiralty Cases which was held last 11-12 December 2019. 

    The training seminar is designed to apprise selected judges, court personnel and other stakeholders on the Rules of Procedure for Admiralty Cases as approved by the Supreme Court.   Participants included designated selected Judges, Branch Clerks of Court and Sheriffs of designated Pilot Admiralty Courts.  Joseph spoke on “Rules 6 to 7: Arrest of Vessel, Cargo or Freight”.

  • Partners Charles Jay Dela Cruz and Florencio Aquino conducted the Firm’s first organized/sponsored seminar overseas on the topic “Current Issues on Filipino Crew Claims” held on 29 June 2011 at Maxwell Chambers, Singapore. Various P&I Clubs and ship managers based in Singapore attended the forum.
  • Partner Herbert A. Tria was a speaker at the 14th Principals’ Conference of Aboitiz Jebsens held at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel on March 1, 2011. Herbert spoke on the Amendment to Migrant Workers Act.
  • Partner Florencio L. Aquino was a speaker at the Officers’ Conference of OSM Maritime Services, Inc. held at the Hyatt Casino and Hotel in Manila on April 27, 2011. Florencio spoke on the Salient Features of the Amended Migrant Workers’ Act.

This was held at the Hilton Hotel in Singapore from May 16 - 27, 2011. Partners Charles Jay Dela Cruz and Joseph Manolo R. Rebano also attended the same course held in Singapore in 2009 and 2010.
  • Partner Herbert A. Tria is the permanent representative of the Joint Manning Group to the Technical Working Group of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) tasked to inrtoduce amendments to the existing POEA Standard Employment Contract.
