NLRC statistics from 2008 to 2010 on seafarer's claims

Below is the official statistics of the NLRC showing number of NLRC cases from 2008 to 2010 subdivided into nature of cases.  Death and disability claims of seafarers are classified under money claims.  Statistics show that money claims declined by 5% from 2009 (1,805) to 2010 (1,713) although such money claims increased by 38% from 2008 (1,307) to 2009 (1,805).

Per POEA Statistics, 347,150 Filipino seafarers were deployed in 2010.  The NLRC money claims (1,713)  for 2010, which are the death and disability claims,  is approximately 0.49% of total seafarers deployed.  All seafarers claims (2,727) for 2010, including illegal dismissal claims, is approximately 0.79% of seafarers deployed.  Filipino seafarers claims do not exceed 1% of total deployed seafarers.

The total deployed seafarers of 347,150 include marine and non-marine (cruise) personnel. Claims filed with the NCMB are minimal and will not materially affect the results as a vast majority of claims are still filed with the NLRC.  Statistics for 2011 are not yet available.
